Here is what Christians around the world believe.

Jesus was born around 2000 years ago in a village near Jerusalem. His birth was both celebrated and despised, welcomed and dreaded. We know he was an unusual child, based on a story in which he was found teaching scholars about God. He grew up to be a carpenter.
When he was around thirty, he began his ministry. In the three short years of that ministry, he rocked the foundation of the existing church of Israel. Because he believed people should be honest with God and with others, he exposed self-important priests. Because he cared for the poor and needy, he challenged the rich to share their riches with the needy. He healed all sorts of sicknesses. He taught people how to live, pray, and to honor God. He was the living, loving God in human form.

As his group of followers grew, so did his enemies. Eventually, they arrested him, tried him, and convicted him to death in the most horrible way. Jesus died for us, both sadly and gladly. He was sad that this had to happen to save the souls of the wicked (that’s where we come in). He was gladdened that the souls of the wicked would be saved from God’s punishment (us again). He took on the sins of everyone! He died for those who believed, even people born hundreds or thousands of years later (still us). That’s a LOT of sins! He did it to show us how much God loves us! What a magnificent, loving Father we have!
On the third day after his death, he rose from the dead. He gave a few final instructions to his followers over the next few weeks. Then he was transformed fully, becoming and rejoining the wholly divine God He is today.
God loves you with a love nobody else can give!

Next Steps

Welcome to the fold! Drop us a note in the comments. Let us know if we can help. Know that we are praying for you. That’s how the family of Christ works. We pray for each other, even when we’ve never met.
Now, find a local church that studies and teaches the Bible. Keep visiting different ones until you find one that feels right. Now that you have the Holy Spirit living in your heart. Let your heart tell you when you’ve found the one that’s right for you.
At the first opportunity, get your own Bible. A real Bible you can hold in your hands. That’s a good place to start. Don’t overdo it. It’s a large book, and many parts are either very dry or very gory. Short passages at first. Try reading the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Psalms, and Proverbs for a good start.
There are several Bible apps for your digital devices. Once you’ve made yourself comfortable with the hard copy Bible, download one or two. It’s a great way to carry the Bible with you during your day.
